The Doctor Who Experience In Cardiff Is Tipped For A Welsh Tourism Award

The Doctor Who Experience has been shortlisted for the Regional Tourism Award at the National Tourism Awards for Wales, less than one year after opening in Cardiff Bay

The Experience and the other shortlisted businesses were announced on Monday 17th June at the launch of the new tourism strategy for Wales by Minister for Economy, Science and Transport, Edwina Hart. The Minister said:

“It’s fantastic to see such a high number of entries for this year’s National Tourism Awards for Wales. What’s more, the quality of those entries was outstanding. We are very fortunate in Wales to have a tourism sector of such high calibre. The shortlisted businesses are prime examples of quality businesses, helping to drive higher tourism earnings for the Welsh economy. We look forward to unveiling the winners in November.”

The awards are staged by Visit Wales, in partnership with the Wales Tourism Alliance and in commercial partnership with Quadrant Media and Communications, to recognise and reward the very best in Welsh tourism. All of the shortlisted businesses will now go through another round of judging before finalists are announced ahead of the awards ceremony at Venue Cymru in Llandudno on 21 November 2013.

The Doctor Who Experience takes visitors on a journey that explores the whole world of the iconic Time Lord, from his first appearance in 1963, right up to the present day. Exhibits include props and costumes from all eleven Doctors, along with some of the most fearsome foes and the Tenth Doctor’s TARDIS set.

Matt Smith says of the Experience, "The whole concept of the Doctor Who Experience, which will give fans a chance to star in their very own Doctor Who adventure, is massively exciting! I hope as many people as possible enjoy boarding the TARDIS to embark upon an exhilarating and sometimes terrifying adventure through time and space".
