The Daily Star Claim Coronation Street's Michelle Keegan Hopes For Broadchurch 2 Role

Coronation Street actress Michelle Keegan apparently has her sights set on a role in Broadchurch.

The Daily Star claims that auditions are already underway for the second series of the hugely successful ITV drama and that Michelle is among those hoping for a part. Michelle, who plays Tina McIntyre in Coronation Street is due to leave the soap next May after her contract was extended from her original leaving date of November 2013. An 'insider' has supposedly said, “Michelle is keen for a gritty drama when she quits Coronation Street. Broadchurch is a top show. It has a huge audience and would allow her to play a more serious role. It’s likely she’ll get it as it’s on ITV and they don’t want to lose her when she leaves Corrie.”

The second series of the Kudos-produced Broadchurch was announced immediately following the conclusion of the first series. The plot and casting are so veiled in secrecy that the crime drama's creator Chris Chibnall refuses even to reveal whether stars David Tennant and Olivia Colman have been asked back to reprise their roles as Alec Hardy and Ellie Mille, let alone who else might be considered for a part.

Michelle Keegan's Corrie co-star Paula Lane has also expressed an interest in a role, as has TOWIE star and former glamour model Billie Faiers.

The first series of Broadchurch boasted an impressive cast that included David Tennant, Olivia Colman, Arthur Darvill, Andrew Buchan, Jodie Whittaker, Pauline Quirke and David Bradley. Filming is expected to begin on series 2 early in 2014.
