About the episode:
Driven by a desire to avenge his own downfall, Aiden plots against his old friend Bruce. He is also spending more time at home looking after their children and particularly their son, Noah.
As he sits on the side-lines watching his wife's meteoric rise, Aiden is increasingly consumed with jealousy and paranoia. Unable to accept his wife's new found success or forgive her betrayal Aiden begins to plot Freya's downfall as well as Bruce's.
A selection of your comments:
- Dawn Cockburn Absolutely gripping. Brilliant casting and very believable
- Bo Adara T Sarvinski A unforgetful performance of the extended caliber and acting abilities of David Tennant. Amazingly in tune between dynamic and awesome!
- Cathy Barr I never thought I wouldn't like David, but he was so nasty tonight. Excellent drama though and I bet a lot of our MP's think it's a little too close to home.
- Lottie M Lottie love this series I just knew he was going to try to get her pregnant. Oooh he is so good being a baddie
- Amanda Webb Loving the nasty David, he plays it so well! Looking forward to next week already!
- Mike Linane Brilliant tv - totally absorbing and gripping. And you can't help thinking that it must be or have been like this is various political couples households over the years. More like this please!
- Steffi Lang Great cast. Great show. And like in the first ep, I was really scared of Aiden. Tennant is just an amazing actor.
- Sooz Pye David Tennant just gets better & better- how can you detest someone and yet feel sorry for them at the same time? My jaw hit the floor twice during this episode. An outstanding piece of acting
- Leon Jeffries It was amazing
Exerlent piece of drama thoroughly enjoyed it
Ohh he is evil - Kathrin 'Lily' Franke Love and hate. Honestly he was scaring me tonight especially in that scene (you know which). Apart from that brilliant as usual - and not just him. An absolute must see.
- Morag Towndrow Very very clever episode. It takes immense skill to make a villain sympathetic and somehow DT managed it. One knows Aidan's actions are unforgivable ... he assaults her... but it's made so complex . Freya is unlikeable and is doing the same to him. Interesting truthful portrait of a marriage.
- John Oliver I find it hard to watch because I hate POLITICS so much!!
I preferred BROADCHURCH. - Pia Urbahn-Bernard disturbing but brilliant! wonderful script and acting! makes you see how politics are even dirtier than you´d think!
- Ashley Townend Brilliant episode but "that scene" was quite upsetting for me the one and only time I have disliked David tenant
- Julia Dickmann Wonderful! David Tenant as Heseltine (oops I mean Aiden) makes a compelling (sic) and irresistible rat!
- Amy Taylor Have to say, all in our house absolutely gripped. I like the dad though, talks a lot of sense. And the old boy at Westminster wondering if they could solve child poverty if they weren't busy stabbing each other in the back. Great script and spotless performances.
- Julie Abraham Filewich DT is one of the best actors of our day! Our American actors can't hold a candle to him. He's so intense and really takes on every role he's in. Episode 2 was phenominal! Can't wait to see Episode 3.
- Amanda Canup We don't know what Aiden is capable of, but this episode really showed he is willing to hurt even those close to him to prove his power. What an intense character for David to portray. He is truly showing his acting range, and brilliantly, I might add.
- Freya Tora Politicians husband is not living up to its hype for me yet. Also, Paula Milne's handling of the sexual assault isn't as good as it could be, I got the impression she thought it's a bit of a lark one shrugs off, it seemed brushed over fast in the script. Will stick with it and see what next week brings.
- Max Smith Superb programme, brilliant acting, cant wait for more
- Charlotte Sliney Good actor indeed. Don't like to see him in this sort of role.
- Ginger Crawford Again I have to praise Tennant as the talent of a generation. He does a good baddie, believable and not at all a cardboard, cartoon version of a nasty man, but one that could be living next door. He is convincing in every role and I can only hope that he will be given a really great part as the main character in a world-shaking movie feature. His talent deserves the recognition. This man is matchless.
- Leona M Stevenson I found it fab and distressful. I loved the lines about, politicians being able to change the country and poverty if it wasnt for the politicians trying to better each other. David shows how amazing an actor he is, emily is fabulous too.
- Faye Sharon Percival-Hall So disturbing but brilliantly written, and the acting is superb. Tennant proves yet again his diverse acting. Extreemly and strangly addictive dispite its political nature.
- Christine Trowbridge the rape scene was tough for me to watch - I cried! - but I know they were just acting. Tennant makes a very convincing bad guy, but I think I'll hafta go watch one of his Doctor Who eps to calm me down. btw, anybody notice the name he typed in the public internet place? *spoiler* (johnsmith!)
- Cynthia Vela And here i was thinking that David could not get any better. Boy was I wrong. His character is so beautifully flawed. He does a terrible thing but you can still see a degree of decency in him and i love how he plays that. His performance is flawless. I was genuinely afraid when the harsh moments happens and i cried with him as well. There wasn't a moment of his performance that i didn't find completely and truly believable. i know he's nominated for an Emmy, and that's amazing....but it's an OSCAR that he deserves. All the awards, David. Absolutely mind-blowing performance.
- Agnes McCourt Rape scenes are always difficult to watch, but in this story it's a necessary component because of the genuine power struggle between the spouses. Aidan feels emasculated by Freya who has taken the powerful job away from him and he has no control over how she does the job. David plays "bad" so "gooood". He plays nice roles always so good as well. But I like him even in bad character roles because they have more depth. He's doing a lot of conniving in this particular tv series and and it makes for good tv drama. Though, I did love him in Broadchurch as well.
- Stephanie Whitmore Brilliant. The politics of power and the power of politics
- Anne Clark Loved it! Next week looks freakin intense!
- Eleanor Rose Varney David Tennant is such a passionate actor. The intensity of this episode was amazing!
- Sam Mills rah!! David Tennant a baddie! ! I really don't like him in this, we will carry on watching. ..
- Clare Crane Ooo he's a wrong un! Politics: the dirtiest of dirty games
- Susan Bell What I kept noticing were David's subtle facial expressions. Yes, there were intense outbursts, but, to me, the finer acting was seen in those moments where he quietly conveyed barely contained emotion.
- Jules Watson David Tennant is incredible at this...best casting!
- Teresa Plus Peter Despite Aiden being a totally unpleasant charactor, David Tennant makes him very watchable. If it was any other actor, I'd hatehim totally but because its David playing him, it keeps my attention thoroughly. totally imersed in this drama. His partnership with Emily Watson is incredible, what a strong team they make. I didn't find the sex scene disturbing at all, it was in context and made sense and it was also shot very well. Emily played the anguish superbly. great series
- San Jeffries Very well acted by everyone, especially the two main characters. David was evil last night, so arrogant, yet his character has a vulnerability about him. Can't wait for the final episode to see if the golden couple stay together or sink!
- Geraldine Ward Shows worst side of trying to deal with loss of power!
- Tracey Fyfe Made me cry but brilliant the way its been done xx
