David Tennant was so amazed by the dedication of a West Country couple to their newsagents business that he suggested he could step in for them so that they could get a break.
Angie Smith and her husband Robert run Alexandra News in Clevedon which was used as one of the filming locations for the new ITV drama Broadchurch. Angie told the Weston Mercury,
"The cast were so down to earth and David Tennant was really interested in finding out about our lives.
“He was shocked that we never take a holiday because we are
running the shop so he actually offered to come down and run it for us
sometime. Once the series has
aired, I do intend to write to him to ask if does want to."
Alexandra News doubled for JGM News in the shoot, the business owned by David Bradley's character Jack Marshall. Angie added, "They were filming over about three weeks. It was absolutely
brilliant. We sat and had lunch with them all - it was just like being
with friends"
The drama was partially shot on location in Clevedon and a number of locations around the Somerset town will feature including Hill Road ,
Marshall ’s Field, St Andrew’s Church
and at homes in St Andrew’s Drive and Lavington Close.
