ITV's new drama series Broadchurch starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman was the ratings winner in its timeslot last night, opening with 6.06 million viewers, a 25.2% audience share. This rose to 6.78 million (28.14%) with the inclusion of figures from ITV+1.
The rival BBC show, Mayday, which launched on Sunday night with a creditable 6.2 million, lost almost 2m viewers last night, dropping down to 4.3m (17.8%). Other programmes in the 9pm slot included BBC Two's The Flying Scotsman (1.79m / 7.4%), Embarrassing Bodies on Channel 4 (1.57m / 6.5%) and Robson Green's Fishing Challenge on Channel 5 (853k / 3.5%).
