David has landed a role in a new four part BBC drama called Single Father.
He plays Dave, a man whose world comes crashing down when his wife Rita dies. He has to raise his children single-handedly - but things get more complicated when he falls for his late wife's best pal Sarah.
Will he let his kids know he's moved on to a new relationship, or will he walk away from what could be his last chance at love?
The four-part BBC1 series, set in Glasgow, starts filming next month.
Mick Ford, one of the writers of police series Ashes to Ashes, wrote the show.
David said: "I feel very lucky to have been sent this script. When I read what Mick Ford had written I was desperate to be part of this project."
Single Father will reunite David with the Red Production Company, who made his BBC drama Casanova in 2005.
He said: "That makes me very happy indeed."
The BBC's head of drama in Scotland, Anne Mensah, said: "David is an amazing actor and perfect for the role."
