Hot on the heels of Sunday's revelation that David Tennant would be returning to Doctor Who as - officially - the Fourteenth Doctor, the BBC and Disney Branded Television have announced that they are joining forces to transform Doctor Who into a global franchise for UK audiences and the rest of the world.
During an appearance on US morning show Live with Kelly and Ryan today, Ncuti Gatwa, the next Doctor, announced that Disney+ will the exclusive home for new seasons of Doctor Who outside the UK and Ireland. The new episodes, under returning showrunner Russell T Davies, will premiere on the BBC and Disney+ beginning in late 2023 for fans all over the world.
The show will be produced in Wales by Bad Wolf with BBC Studios Production.
Russell T Davies says of the new collaboration, "I love
this show, and this is the best of both worlds – with the vision and joy of the
BBC and Disney+ together we can launch the TARDIS all around the planet,
reaching a new generation of fans while keeping our traditional home firmly on
the BBC in the UK."

Following Jodie Whittaker's final bow from the show last weekend, fans now have over a year to wait for the series to return - and a year to speculate about the twist in the Thirteenth Doctor's regeneration. Doctor Who will return to screens worldwide in November 2023 with three special episodes starring David Tennant alongside returning companion Catherine Tate as Donna Noble. Ncuti Gatwa will take over as the Doctor over the 2023 festive season.
