Canadian actor Kevin Zegers (Transamerica,Gossip Girl) is the latest name to join the cast of Gracepoint, the American remake of the award-winning ITV drama Broadchurch.
Kevin will play Owen Burke, described as a handsome, clever and extremely laid back young reporter on the local town newspaper. The role is based on that of Olly Stevens, played in Broadchurch by Jonathan Bailey. Owen is Gracepoint born and bred. He didn't want to go away to college - he couldn’t afford it - and he felt he could do what he needed to do here. But now, with the arrival of a big city journalist, his dormant ambitions are awakened, getting both himself and his aunt Ellie (Anna Gunn) in big trouble.
Gracepoint follows the impact on a sleepy coastal Californian town after the body of a young boy is discovered beneath the cliffs. The picturesque town soon finds itself at the heart of a major police investigation and a nationwide media frenzy. Kevin Zegers joins David Tennant (Detective Emmett Carver), Anna Gunn (Detective Ellie Miller), Jacki Weaver (Susan Wright), Kevin Rankin (Paul Coates) and Virginia Kull (Beth Lassiter) in the 10-part event series which is being produced by Fox.
Gracepoint is scheduled to begin filming in late January in various locations in
Canada and California,
including Oak Bay
near . The series is being
produced in partnership with Shine Victoria, British Columbia America in association with Kudos
and Imaginary Friends. Shine International is distributing internationally. The
original series’ creator, Chris Chibnall (Doctor Who), will executive produce and has written the premiere
episode. Joining him as executive producers are Dan Futterman and Anya Epstein
(In Treatment), Shine America’s Carolyn
Bernstein (The Bridge) and
Kudos’ Jane Featherstone (The Hour).
Gracepoint is scheduled for broadcast during the 2014-15 season.
